Garage Doors in Rockway, OntarioBumped the doorbacking out?

A creased bottom panel is a common sight in Rockway, and it rarely means a whole new door. We check the struts, hinges and track alignment, replace the damaged section when a match is available, and reinforce the panel so the door lifts straight and looks whole again from the street.

Fixing, tuning and replacing

We think of garage door work in Rockway as keeping a heavy moving object safe and smooth. That covers spring and cable work, tracks and rollers, opener force and sensor settings, seals against the weather, and complete door replacement when a repair no longer makes sense.

Springs

Springs & Hardware

The counterbalance system is the part of the door people never see and rely on completely. Springs, cables, drums, bearings and brackets share one load, and this group covers keeping that load carried safely.

Garage Door Roller ReplacementHalfway up, the door hesitates and the opener strains before it carries on. Pulled by hand with the opener released, you feel the same catch at the same height, as if a wheel is dragging instead of turning.
  2. Gloved hands holding a vertical garage-door track and a wrench at its mounting bracket beside a door hinge. — Garage Door Track Repair or Replacement, Rockway
Garage Door Track Repair or ReplacementThe door climbs crooked, one side clearly ahead of the other. Nothing looks broken, but the two tracks sit different distances from the door, and one leans in toward the opening near the top.
  3. Gloved hands holding a bright cable and pliers gripping a frayed cable beside a garage-door track and pulley. — Garage Door Cable Replacement, Rockway
Garage Door Cable ReplacementStanding inside with the door closed, you notice the cable on the right side near the floor has gone fuzzy. A handful of broken wires stick out like a bottle brush and the steel underneath is brown.
  4. Detached coil springs with end fittings and a cable rest on a bench in front of a closed garage door. — Torsion Spring Replacement, Rockway
Torsion Spring ReplacementOn a cold morning the remote does nothing useful: the light comes on, the motor turns briefly, the door stays shut. There may be a fresh crack in a rusty coil, and flakes of orange on the floor below the shaft.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 49%Homes of every age

About 49% of homes in Kitchener were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Where housing is mixed, so are garage sizes: single doors on older lots, double doors on infill and newer builds. Spring pairs, cable lengths and opener strength are all sized to the actual door, and we carry the range to cover whichever door is in front of us.

  • 48%

Single-detached houses make up about 48% of homes in Kitchener (2021 Census).

In a neighbourhood with both detached and attached homes, some customers decide alone and others report to a board or property manager. We adapt the visit accordingly, giving a homeowner options at the door and a manager a written summary they can circulate.

Garage Door Tune-Up

The door lands with a thud you can feel through the kitchen floor, and sometimes it bounces back up a few centimetres before settling. The bottom section has a small dent where it keeps slamming the concrete.

Garage Door Tune-Up

The questions that come up

(226) 806-0552

Can you replace my rollers with quieter ones during the tune-up?

Often, yes, if you decide you want them and stock is on the truck. Nylon rollers with sealed bearings run noticeably quieter than plain steel rollers and need no lubricant. Rollers on the middle sections can be changed with the door clamped in the track; the bottom rollers sit in the bottom brackets, which hold spring tension, and are changed as part of a separate job. The technician can tell you how many are worn and what the change would involve.

What information helps when I book the visit?

Whether the lock is an inside sliding bar, an outside T-shaped handle with a key, or both; whether the handle turns and whether anything moves when it does; whether the key goes in and turns; whether an opener is fitted and whether it has ever run with the lock engaged; the door's material and age; and whether you hold a key. A photo of the inside of the lock is useful.

Should every hinge be replaced, or only the broken one?

It depends on what the inspection finds. Hinges age at similar rates, so a cracked one is often the first of several, especially on the lower joints where salt and moisture collect. The technician checks each hinge and tells you which are cracked, worn at the pin or bent, which are loose and only need tightening, and which are sound. Replacing the worn group in one visit saves the door a run of separate call-outs.

What does an opener diagnosis actually involve?

A fixed sequence of checks, done in order so nothing is assumed. Power at the receptacle. Each control tried on its own. The photo eyes and their indicator lights. The head unit's flash code, if it has one. The drive train from motor to trolley. Then the door itself, disconnected and lifted by hand to test its balance. Only after that is a part named and, where it is a small one, replaced during the same visit.

Why does the door jerk or jump at the same spot every time?

A repeatable jolt at one point on the rail is usually a chain problem meeting a sprocket problem: a stiff link or a spread master link passing over worn sprocket teeth, so the chain rides up and drops a tooth. It can also be a burr or a splice plate on the rail where the trolley catches, or a roller on the door hanging up in the track at that height. The technician runs the door by hand first to tell the two apart.
